Background and objectives
REWIND NET, network of information and documentation centers in Eastern and Central Europe consists of 14 countries. It was established in 2001. The annual meeting was held every year since then. At the meeting the participants mainly discussed issues to be done in upcoming year. Since some of the centers are not supported by OSI in 2005 and have no funds for REWIND NET activities, the main goal of this annual meeting is attempt to solve some of the problems the Network is facing (existence of Network, funding, commitment to common work, communication…).
Annual meeting took place in Tallinn, Estonia thank to Estonian Women's Studies and Resource Centre on December 11 - 12. Thirteen participants attended the meeting (for full list of participants please check Annex A; for agenda check Annex B).

Issues raised during the presentation of national centers:
Issue of Thesaurus usage |
Issue of up-dating of directory of women's groups |
Visibility of REWIND NET |
What is with Polish directory of women's groups? Magda will talk with project coordinator and let us know |
REWIND NET achievements in 2004.
Status of REWIND NET project |
International promotion of REWIND NET |
Launched in December |
It consists of several parts: About REWIND NET; activities; reports; database of women's groups; links; exchange of various information; FAQ; list of countries (group introduction, statistical data on women, country news (information on women's initiatives in the country) |
We still did not receive data from: Poland, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and some parts from Czech Republic |
Discussion on experiences, problems and solutions
Problems brought up:
Adjustment of Thesaurus, how to put it into practice. |
Not sufficient flow of information |
No feeling of network |
There should me more discussions, exchange of experience on a network level |
Lack of communication. Ženska infoteka brought this issue on agenda, as, in their opinion, that is one of more serious issues. There is no communication between the centers nor in most cases, centers reply to e-mails sent from Zenska infoteka asking for comments, suggestions and views. |
Therefore, we proposed set of communication rules:
Every center should at least confirm that the message is received |
If a center cannot provide information/data requested, or do the task to tell so and give an estimate when they can provide the info |
On mailing list inform about initiatives, activities, news…(infocenters mailing list and newly established rewind net mailing list) |
Automatic reminder once a month to do so |
Issue of motivation: Why centers participate in REWIND NET?
All centers expressed their wish and need to participate further in activities of REWIND NET. |
Montenegro - motivated because we all deal with similar issues, fond to conduct research and other common activities, to find out what is the status of national center in comparison with other INDOC centers
Serbia - exchange of experience, information, keen on same topics; being part of network will provide help in their work in regional or implement on the local level; expectation: mutual exchange of experience, data and information
Croatia - what we gained being the part of RN is regular communication with other INDOC centers, learned; possibility to know what other are doing (specific and similar experience - common projects - cooperation; systematic way of doing research, lobbying)
Estonia - expectation: to make this network visible: to make content (organizing seminars, conferences…) that will be interested for wider public, outside the network
Slovakia - internships, to use resources we have, media monitoring material (good argument material)
Poland - more activities / not only RN (good tool to make RN visible exp. banner with RN logo on national website); unique methodology for collection of books and PC
Moldova - gained: database of women's groups, more structured work, database of library (due experience of RN they extended the work on database which became more structured); exchange of information. Expectations: stress on practice, visible results, to invite members of RN as experts on seminars, conferences a expert exchange
Czech Republic - is not supported by OSI, lack of funding for this project. Interested to participate in it but only partially (unable to contribute to web site)
Workshop 1: Network activities
Proposed activities:
Conference/seminar
Media monitoring
More attractive activities for wider public and funds
Internships
Expert exchange for certain fields
Prime time news analysis + analysis of newspapers a goal: to get quantitative and qualitative data
Database of gender sensitive

Thesaurus
PRIORITY LIST
These are planned activities for the year 2005. Those depend upon achieved funds.
Updating of regional directory of women's groups
Annual meeting in Baku
Development and up-dating of web site
Expert exchange
Internship
Media monitoring + research - neutral issue - presentation & representation of women in the media
Work on Thesaurus (on national level to think of specific issues, to think of national experts who will work on national Thesaurus, preparatory step for the annual meeting in 2005)
Workshop 2: Responsibilities of national centers
Czech Republic - not able to run any of the activities but can participate in media monitoring, updating of regional directory of women's groups, journalists, internships (problem of funding)
Moldova - problems with funding, no funding starting with January 2005, they will include proposed activities in new project proposal, strategy for 2005. Not sure that they will be included in research, but center can be included in: expert exchange, fundraising…
Poland - expert exchange, they see their role in maintaining of web site, internships, not in media monitoring
Slovakia - can provide contacts for experts and journalists (upon request ), list of journalists, interested in internship s , media monitoring but not web site development
Estonia - interested in all activities, especially in web site development
Croatia - interested in all activities, but no capacity for organizing additional seminar/conference
Serbia - activities depend on funding - media monitoring, web site team, unable to organize seminar
Montenegro - expert exchange, list of journalists, the most interesting in media monitoring research. They are not interested in fundraising and web site.
Annual meeting will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan. Additional funding for travel costs to those that are no longer supported by OSI, coordinating annual meeting, new ideas.

DAY 2 - 12.12.2004.
What is the mission of REWIND NET?
Similar issues are on agenda, to become stronger and more visible (Estonia); exchanges of centers that are regionally closer/to stress sub regional collaboration (Slovakia); consultation, what else they can do or improve (Czech Republic); more visible activities on national level; structured and regular visibility of some centers through initiatives of other centers; cooperation in expertise, internships; networking which is working together, not necessarily all centers
Workshop 3: Strategic planning - Fundraising strategy
To look for big grants that would cover all activities and every national center but also for grants interested in specific sub region |
Zenska infoteka applied for CARDS program, but only for coordination, national activities are not covered |
Fundraising conclusion: to develop sub regional cooperation and look for sub regional funds |
Fundraising conclusion: to share information on funders and Call for proposals with members of RN |
Strategy: to work on visibility of REWNET (on national and regional level) a logo of RN with link to RN web site on national web site; press-release with introduction of RN
Strategy: to send information on activities of national centers to infocenters mailing list and RN mailing list |
Strategy: newly established REWIND NET mailing list is list for internal use of RN. Please contact Violeta Andjelkovic-Kanzleiter ( vangel@EUnet.yu) for more information on how to subscribe. |
